Goodwood Festival of Speed

The world’s racing fans can experience the excitement at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, July 13-16, 2023. The festival brings together cars, drivers, and fans from across the world to celebrate the speed and beauty of automobiles, especially race cars. Goodwood Circuit

The Goodwood estate encompasses the Goodwood Circuit, an important track in British racing history. The course encircles the RAF Westhampnet Airfield, now known as the Chichester/Goodwood Airport in West Sussex, England. The first car race was held at the 2,367-mile track in 1948 and was active until 1966. Famous drivers such as Mike Hawthorne, Graham Hill, and Roger Penske competed there.

History of the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Lord March wanted to revive British racing at Goodwood Circuit after he inherited the estate in the early 1990s but couldn’t get a permit for a race, so he hosted an event at his Goodwood estate instead on Sunday, June 20, 1993. The Goodwood Festival of Speed has grown to a multi-day event featuring displays of historic and modern race cars, as well as several special events.

Special Festival Events

• Hill Climb – The most popular event at the Goodwood Festival of Speed is the Hill Climb. Drivers tackle a 1.16 mile hill with a 4.9% grade.
• F1 Pit Lane – The Pit Lane lets racing enthusiasts get an up close look at Formula 1 cars from Mercedes, McClaren, Williams, Ferrari, and more—plus a chance to meet their driving heroes.
• Future Lab – Explore the future of movement in the Future Lab. From racing innovations to jetpacks, festival goers can see what’s on the drawing board in this popular event.
• Electric Avenue – Top of the line electric vehicles are on display on Electric Avenue.
• Central Feature – The Central Feature highlights a different automaker every year. Aston Martin was honored on the company’s 70th anniversary in 2019.
• Supercar Paddock – The Supercar Paddock gathers the world’s fastest, most advanced cars all in one place.
• Cartier Style et Luxe – The Cartier Style et Luxe gathers the rarest and most beautiful cars in the world in a display of luxury through the ages.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023

This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will kick off on July 13, 2023 and run through July 16. Tickets must be purchased in advance; there will be no admissions sold at the gate. Children 12 and under are admitted free, and there is a reduced youth rate for attendees between the ages of 13 and 21.
