Who Owns Aston Martin?

As many Palm Beach Gardens car enthusiasts know, Aston Martin was owned by Ford for 20 years. In fact, some noticed that the Ford Fusion once shared a similar grille to the signature Aston Martin design! However, the brand changed hands in 2020 when Canadian billionaire and investor, Lawrence Stroll, led a consortium leading to a 25% stake in the company. This makes him the current chairman of the brand, while Tobias Moers of Mercedes-AMG maintains the title of CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda Group Limited.

Who Owned Aston Martin?

You know who is the owner of Aston Martin, but who was the owner? Let’s take a look at who owned Aston Martin over the years:

  • 1913: Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford created the first Aston Martin by combining a four-cylinder Coventry-Simplex engine with a 1908 Isotta Fraschini.
  • 1947: David Brown Limited purchased the Aston Martin brand, pivoting into racetrack-ready performance models.
  • 1972: Following a recession and new emissions standards, David Brown sold Aston Martin to William Wilson.
  • 1975: William Wilson transfers ownership to North American businessmen Peter Sprague, George Minden, and Jeremy Turner. This resulted in the creation of the V8 Vantage and Volante.
  • 1981-1991: This decade saw ownership by Victor Gauntlett of Pace Petroleum and vice president of Ford of Europe, Walter Hayes in 1987.
  • 1991: Following Ford’s 75% stake in the company in 1987, Ford became the owner for nearly 20 years and introduced Aston Martin into the Premier Automotive Group.
  • 2007: David Richards, the chairman of the Prodrive Motorsport Company, became the new owner.
  • 2013: David Richards left for Prodrive, which led to Dr. Ulrich Bez and Nissan executive Andy Palmer taking the helm. This was also when Daimler AG was introduced into the Aston Martin family.
  • 2020: Lawrence Stroll becomes the chairman of Aston Martin.

Who Makes Aston Martin Cars?

Aston Martin vehicles have been made lovingly in England for over 100 years. More specifically, the brand’s roots lie in a 55-acre facility in the village of Gaydon. A former RAF V Bomber airbase, the site has become the home base of the Aston Martin brand manufacturing – and it’s likely to remain there for the foreseeable future.
