Today, we’re talking about the Aston Martin DB2, hailed as one of the most recognizable vehicles of the early 1950s. Read on for some key information about the DB2, as well as the answers to popular questions like, “How much is an Aston Martin DB2 worth today?” and, “How many Aston Martin DB2 are there?”

History of the Aston Martin DB2

The Aston Martin DB2’s predecessor has since been retroactively named the DB1, but at the time of its production from 1948 to 1950, it was actually called the Aston Martin 2-Litre Sports. Although the Aston Martin DB2 was produced between 1950 and 1953, three pre-production models came out in 1949 for the 24 Hours of Le Mans–also called the 17th Grand Prix of Endurance. There were a total of forty-nine vehicles racing, and the DB2 driven by Arthur Jones and Nick Haines finished in seventh place. Nick Haines would go on to finish in fifth place the next month behind the wheel of the DB2 at the Spa 24 Hours race.

The Aston Martin DB2 officially debuted in April 1950 at the New York Motor Show, creating so much buzz with the public that factories quite literally couldn’t keep up with the demand. It featured a 2.0L twin cam 6-cylinder engine designed by W.O. Bentley, a legendary English engineer who founded the Bentley line of automobiles. It had a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 11.2 seconds and could reach a top speed of 116 miles an hour. The Aston Martin DB2 enjoyed considerable success both commercially and on the racetrack and was succeeded by the Aston Martin DB2/4 in 1953.
